The School Council

Friday 18th November

Abbey Lane pupils had great fun going ‘spotty’ to raise money for Children in Need. Children and Staff collected a fantastic, record amount of more
than £1300 by taking part in a host of activities run over both playtimes and during dinner time.

The School Council started preparing weeks in advance. Planning the charitable antics themselves, the children raised money by donating buns, biscuits and cakes and holding a mouthwatering cake sale. Other children took on the challenge and held various contests, competitions, sponsorship events and a ‘Pudsey Bear’ raffle.

422 Pudsey Bear biscuits were baked by school cook Mrs Sambrook and delivered to 15 classrooms. Never to be seen again!

Brothers Jenson and Harrison held a sponsored cross country ‘playground’ run together, completing 30 laps and raising over £60 just by themselves.

Peace abounded in Y5 and Y6 on the day with some children being sponsored to be speechless for a whole day!

There was excitement during assembly with the pulling of the winning ticket to win Build-a-bear Pudsey Bear, donated by Mrs Stafford. Lucky Fran in Y2M was thrilled to be the holder of the magic first ticket and Sophie in Reception won the 2nd prize of a mini Pudsey.

The variety of activities during dinner time was amazing. From goal shooting, to nail painting, guess the number of marbles/sweets/pennies in jars, face painting, badge making, guess the name of the teddy, make your own bookmark, find the hidden Pudsey, decorate your own biscuits and even Spongebob Squarepants had a part to play. Nobody was falling out this dinnertime!

Y2’s took over their whole morning devising, advertising, preparing and producing 2 classrooms of moneymaking mayhem. And what fun they had.
Mrs Bierton was thrilled with the effort and determination of the children to not just raise £100’s of pounds, but to have such fun at the same time. “This is Abbey Lane at its very best. Every child has contributed in some way to making this day as successful as it is”.

The reaction of the School Council……………… “When can we do this again?

Photo's of the activities will shortly be posted in our website gallery.
