The Governors

The role of the governors is to provide a supportive framework to create a secure, happy, stimulating and caring environment, which enables all pupils to fulfill their potential.

A governing body’s responsibilities include:

  • helping to establish (with the Headteacher) the aims and policies of the school, and how the standards of education can be improved

  • helping to draw up the improvement/development plan with the Headteacher and staff

  • helping to decide how to spend the school's budget

  • making sure that the National Curriculum and religious education are taught

  • selecting the Headteacher and undertaking the Headteacher’s performance management

  • determining the staffing complement of the school

  • acting as a link between the local community and the school

  • drawing up an action plan after an Ofsted inspection and monitoring how the plan is put into practice

  • becoming familiar with the school by attending school events, helping out in class, participating in school trips, attending concerts etc.

  • taking part in monitoring visits and reporting back to the rest of the governing body
