Sheffield in Bloom Lord Mayors Award
The school was shortlisted for the Sheffield in Bloom Lord Mayors Award 2007.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Arthur Dunworth, met the pupils of Abbey Lane School today. It was a sunshine break for everyone as the Lord Mayor chatted with the school children. The pupils told the Lord Mayor how they had made their floral decorations and hanging baskets. Mrs Hinksman, who runs the school gardening club, supported the pupils in the making of their hanging baskets. The final award ceremony is to take place in the Town Hall on Tuesday 17th July and Abbey Lane hopes to be a winner!

Dress Code Confusion
It has come to my attention today that there is confusion over the School Code of Dress. In a newsletter dated May 2005 the following was stated:
‘Summer dresses can be worn now, in green or yellow (check or plain). Shorts should be black or grey (not cycling) and shoes can be white or black trainers or sandals. Please ensure that your child’s schoolwear is conforming to the agreed policy.’
This is clearly not in line with the school policy laid out in the school prospectus, which I and the governors consulted. However, since the newsletter has been sent to parents, the Chair of Governors and myself have agreed, that if parents have already purchased items in line with the above statement, it is only fair to allow them in school this summer term. However, we feel that the School Code of Dress will have to be reviewed formally in the Autumn Term.
I do apologise for any inconvenience caused and in due course I will write again to confirm the outcomes of the autumn discussions with the Governors.
