Parents of Abbey Lane School (PALS)

Welcome to the Parents of Abbey Lane School page. We are a group of parents, carers and grandparents who are committed to fundraising for the school.

What we do.....

Our aim is work with the School Staff and Governors to enhance the experiences of our children during their time at Abbey Lane, often providing those little extras which make their time at school special. Past projects have included:

  • Development of a woodland path and outdoor classroom
  • Provision of scooter racks
  • Extensive development and extension of the children’s outdoor play space and school playgrounds, for example introduction of new play equipment, seating areas and playground markings
  • Purchase of sports kit for inter-school matches
  • Support of additional activities and events in school such as “Arts Week”, and “Discovery Kitchen” cookery demonstrations
  • Donations to support school trips and Sports Days
  • Provision of Year Books for the Year 6 leavers

Fundraising

We have a number of regular events which include school discos, quiz nights, cake bakes, second hand uniform sales, sale of Christmas cards designed by pupils, “bags-to-school”, an Easter raffle and the summer fair. As a registered charity we also pursue funding through grants and corporate matched fundraising schemes. Every penny counts!

As children reach their final year at Abbey Lane and move on, so do their parents, so we really do need you! In return we hope we can help you feel more connected to the school and other parents and have a bit of fun along the way!

Let us contact you! This is the single most valuable thing you can do for PALS. Due to data protection rules we do not have access to contact information you have given to school. Therefore you will need to give us your details separately for us to keep in touch. Please pass your e-mail address to a member of the team at an event or e-mail us at [email protected] to join our mailing list.

  • Attend our meetings. We are a friendly bunch of mums and dads who have children at Abbey Lane just like you! Meetings are held once every ½ term in The Abbey Pub. Further details, dates etc are publicised via the mailing list.

  • You don’t need to come to every meeting and you don’t need to contact us beforehand, just turn up if you want to get involved or just to listen in and find out what it’s all about!

  • Send us your ideas and feedback. You don’t have to attend our meetings if that’s not your thing, you can use our email address to send in your ideas for discussion.

  • VOLUNTEER to help organise, run or supervise our fundraising events. There are a variety of small ways you can help; design a poster, photocopying and distributing letters into book bags, cleaning up after an event, helping out on a stall, filling-in applications for applicable grants, canvasing local businesses for support etc.

  • Bake and donate cakes for the bake sales held at the end of every ½ term. All donations of cakes and biscuits are welcome as we always sell out, just hand them to the school office before 2pm on the day.

  • Donate old/unwanted uniform. Hand in to the school office for collection by PALS or bring to the next bake and uniform sale at the end of every ½ term.

  • Donate when shopping online. Before shopping online, visit the easyfundraising website first and sign up to allow Abbey Lane Primary School to receive cash donations, at no cost to yourself, when you make a purchase from thousands of online retailers.

  • Donate unwanted coins. One of the new ways PALS are fundraising at Abbey Lane Primary School is by collecting old British or foreign coins and notes, even obsolete currency. There will be flyers in book bags to tell you all about it, lots of posters around the school, as well as the collection bucket. Once the currency has been collected, we send it to www.cash4coins.co.uk who exchanges it into cash we can use directly for the benefit of our children. The bucket will be here all year so keep your coin donations coming please!

  • Support our up-coming events which cannot go ahead without volunteers.....

Our school is the best choice for your kid
